This weeks assignment was to create a poster for the Winter Show.

The only brief was to create a poster that presented a humanistic view of ITP. Ultimately I found this to be a difficult quite open-ended brief. Taking some inspiration from prior work, and looking at Red Burns as a source of inspiration for the "humanistic" view definitely helped guide my final vision of what I wanted the poster to be.

I ended up making 2 different designs for the Winter Gallery due to these opposing ideas in my head of something that popped and something a bit more toned down. These were my first passes at the poster, It was definitely a tough assignment due to the open-ended-ness of the brief as well as my lack of confidence in my abilities as a designer, but ultimately I think I landed on 2 designs I really liked.

This first had a softer, almost cozier tone for me. In my head the word "Hygge" (Danish/Norwegian word for a mood of coziness and comfortable conviviality with feelings of wellness and contentment) came to mind and also fits very well with the idea of winter. The color palette and mood of this felt very simple and provoked a real sense of comfort. I think that the font for the titles showed up really well and feels very readable. Like wise with the supporting copy at the bottom, a more serif font felt appropriate for the tone and was able to convey the information very clearly. We can see a clear hierarchal flow of top to bottom and it manages to take a user through the story.

These larger more pronounced color schemes felt a lot more eye catchy and meant that the poster really highlighted the key words and kept the extraneous information for later for your eyes to see.
