The Matrix Poster.jpg

THE HIERARCHY

Your eyes are immediately drawn to the red and blue pill which is very significant to the premise of The Matrix. It instantly conveys what the movie is.

At the bottom we see the recognizable title with it’s trademark font followed by the release month.

Sometimes, most often with with blockbuster movies, the accompanying posters tend to be crammed in with the images of actors, their names, the director, and the supporting staff, as well as the production companies but all we see here are very small indicators of Warner Bros in the bottom left and right corners.

Overall the poster is very clean and simple and manages to grab the viewer's attention and reel them into exploring further.

THE HIERARGRID

The overall design and placement of the elements here make me envision and arrow shape leading my eyes from top to bottom. The red and blue pills already signify choice and then my eyes drift downwards to the main title, the date and the website.

This formation is very pleasing to the eye and stops the viewer from jumping about from element to element all over the poster.

THE GRID

Our canvas here is split up into a central grid that manages to center our focus on the pills which are right in the center. The pills are almost placed on that center line to balance and then help divide the posters into the top and bottoms halves.

We can also see that only the top and bottom quarters are filled with text which almost make us have to scan the entire poster rather than keeping all the text right at the top or the bottom.

Also we can see that the poster is very horizontally symmetrical but placing the 2 pills and by centering all the supporting text, it again lends itself to a very pleasing poster.

THE NEGATIVE SPACE

This poster is mostly white space, with the elements being very sparse and away from each other.

The negative space forms around to the pills and takes you again down this very linear top to bottom pattern. We see this pattern emerge.

  1. The past
  2. What choice do I make.
  3. Red or Blue pill
