Today we're going to talk about the Venus Flytrap. This carnivorous plant is native to the wetlands of the Carolinas in the southeastern United States. It's known for its unique ability to capture and digest small insects using its modified leaves.
The Venus Flytrap has two hinged leaves that are lined with tiny trigger hairs. When an insect touches these hairs, the leaves snap shut, trapping the insect inside. The plant then secretes digestive enzymes to break down the insect's body and extract nutrients.
Despite its fearsome appearance, the Venus Flytrap is actually a relatively small and delicate plant. It requires very specific growing conditions, including nutrient-poor soil and high humidity, in order to thrive.
